Desert Mouse Sprouting and Growing Information
Planting Instructions
1. Carefully remove all components from the color box.
2. Drop three soil disks into the opening and add 80 ml (approximately 5 ½ tablespoons) of water.
3. The disks and water will rapidly combine to produce moist germination mixture. Use a thin plastic spoon to spread and smooth.
4. Empty the seeds into the palm of your hand and use the other hand to disperse the seeds throughout the Mouse Terrariums. You can also use the handle of the spoon to drop them into the back of the planter.
5. Insert the included cork top into the opening of the Mouse Terrarium.
6. Place your Mouse Terrarium in an area where it receives bright, indirect light and will not be easily knocked over.
7. Plants will germinate in 1-4 weeks. However, they do have seed clocks and generally will not sprout in December and January.
8. Water your Mouse Garden once a month and leave the cork stopper in place to maintain the mini climate inside the Terrarium.
The Desert Mouse FAQ
How long will my Cacti plants take to sprout?
Your Cacti seeds can take about one to two weeks to sprout. However, Cacti seeds often will not germinate in the Months of December and January. If planted during these months, you may not see sprouts until February. Once they have sprouted, the new cacti will focus on growing roots for the next few months. Consequently, there is little growth observed during this time. After this period, the new cacti will grow every time they are watered.
How fast will my Cacti grow?
Cacti will naturally limit their size and growth to adapt to the habitat they are in. Your cacti will grow no larger than your Glass Terrarium. However, if you transplant your Cacti into a larger pot, it will grow more.
What is the process for sprouting my Cacti?
First, hydrate the soil with the amount of water recommended in the instructions. You can do this directly inside your Glass Terrarium if you would like. Once hydrated, aerate your soil and then smooth out the top. Place or sprinkle your Cacti seed where you would like and cover it with 1/8” of soil. Next, you can add a thin layer of the included sand, or you can wait to add the sand until after your Cacti sprout. Cover the opening of the Glass Terrarium with plastic wrap and a rubber band to ensure germination. You can remove the cover as early as two weeks after your seeds sprout.
How often do I have to water my Mouse Garden?
Once sprouted, water your Cacti sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Typically, watering once every two weeks is sufficient. Cacti need more water in the Spring and Summer and less in the Fall and Winter.
How much water do I use in my Mouse Garden?
Once sprouted, you will add 1/8 cup of water to your Mouse Garden. Cacti typically need more water in the Spring and Summer and less water in the Fall and Winter.
Why are my Cactus’ spines turning brown?
Cactus spines can turn brown due to overwatering or excessive direct sunlight. Be sure to water properly and give your Cacti adequate sunlight.
Why did the color of my Cactus change?
Color change is normal in Cacti. They usually change color as per the climate, mostly in the Winter. They can turn pink/red in the winter and are usually green again by Summer.
Why is my Cactus turning pale?
Your Cactus is likely pale due to overwatering or insufficient light. Cacti need bright, indirect sunlight and minimal water. Be sure to only water your Cacti when the soil is completely dry, about once every two to four weeks.
Why is my Cactus soft?
Cacti can turn soft from receiving too much water. Their roots can become waterlogged, causing decay. If you notice your Cactus becoming soft, adjust your watering schedule and increase light exposure.
